the Little People
the toads, trolls, plant divas,
earth grubs, sun dapples,
following the sweet light of Nature
all the way
back
to a childhood of green,
green afternoons
scent of wild mint, wet sage,
white clover and
RAIN!
Let us get wet together!
Drenched with the honey-bee's nectar,
kneeling on beckoning cool grass.
You remember making
flower wreathes,
catching sun motes
on the wing,
moving stones in the stream.
Stories are being told--
and all manner of beings are here.
Perhaps,
you are really growing
backwards, getting younger
growing closer to the Earth.
Perhaps,
there will be
a Plant Spirit awaiting
just you.

As above, so below:
thanksgiving for your cascading light,
your bodies filled with veins and arteries, the magma
of creation, your intelligence thundering down
from such a height that you might
see our souls
igniting, small stars in conflagration, small fires
in constellation.
We too, seek orbit around light
no matter,
through matter
how dark our stars may be.
You, Seven Sisters, held in prayer inside your
Spider's egg-sac, subtle beings fierce
and tender, prevailing beyond
the mighty Hunter of the skies, keeping
council with Fire and Ice, the Sun and Moon--
Pray for us, Pleaides, Sisters of Perpetual Motion,
pray for our eternal dance.
Round and round new novas burst
and we on Earth embody after-shock
of the birthing Before-It-All-Began.
We witness your sun-spotting,
star-calving,
celestial mating and midwifery,
your flares and retributions turning
loyal planets into cold and lifeless seas
and sands--
Galactic break-ups,
astronomical wounds
and then, faster than the speed of light
you birth another World, another universe
with shining, suffering, searching beings
who will try to steal your fire, reach your spheres.
We feed you now, the food
of our old and captive bodies.
These we shed to rise anew, rekindled,
small solar systems setting sail.
